Park City in November 2026: Thanksgiving, Opening Day, and the Weekend the Holidays Begin

Published August 22, 2026 • 9 min read • Park City Winter 2026

November in Park City is two entirely different months wearing the same name. The first three weeks are among the quietest of the year — the fall visitors are gone, the ski crowd has not arrived, and Main Street belongs to the people who live on it. Then Thanksgiving week arrives, the snow globes go up, the lights come on, and the town turns into the version of itself that ends up on Christmas cards.

This guide covers both halves: what is on the November 2026 calendar, what Thanksgiving on Main Street actually looks like, and a realistic account of when the lifts open — which is the part most guides get wrong.

Thanksgiving in Park City: November 26

Thanksgiving is the reason to look hard at November. It is a five-night holiday for most families, it falls at the exact moment the town flips into its holiday version, and it is the one week in the month with a genuine reason to be here.

We cover the week in full — the Turkey Trot, the three ways to handle dinner, and the weekend that follows — in our Thanksgiving week guide. Main Street restaurants run Thanksgiving menus, and reserving early matters more than in almost any other week of the year — kitchens plan the holiday service weeks out and tables go quickly. But the more interesting option for a group is not going out at all.

A ten-person Thanksgiving in a hotel is not a Thanksgiving. It is five separate rooms and a restaurant reservation. The alternative is a full Wolf kitchen, a dining table that seats the whole group at once, and an afternoon of everyone in the same room while the turkey is in the oven — then a walk down Main Street afterward, and the rooftop fire pit when the plates are cleared. That is the actual case for a penthouse over a hotel at Thanksgiving, and we make it in more detail in our rental versus hotel breakdown.

The Weekend the Holidays Start: November 27–28

The two days after Thanksgiving are the best-programmed weekend of the month, and every piece of it happens on Main Street.

The Snow Globe Art Stroll

Seven life-sized snow globes, each built and decorated by a local artist as its own winter scene, are installed along Main Street and stay up into early January. Each one hides a silver snowflake, which turns the walk into a scavenger hunt for anyone traveling with kids. The globes run from the top of Main down to Town Lift — which means Summit on Main sits in the middle of the route rather than at the end of a drive to it.

Park City Art & Music Gallery Stroll, Friday, November 27

The last Friday of every month, Main Street galleries open their doors for a free evening of art, food, drinks, and live music. Look for the Park City Gallery Association flags. Falling the day after Thanksgiving, this is the adult counterprogramming to a day of leftovers.

Small Business Saturday and the Holiday Lighting, November 28

The anchor event. Local musicians play along Main Street through the day, shops run extended hours, and in the late afternoon the Miner’s Park Christmas tree and every strand of lights strung between the Main Street lampposts are switched on at once. Early arrivals have received light-up necklaces and candy canes in past years. Santa’s mailbox goes up at Miner’s Park for letters, and the Silver & Snow window display contest opens, with each participating shopfront carrying a code to scan and vote.

It is a small-town holiday kickoff in a town that happens to have world-class restaurants on the same street. If a trip has to be aimed at one November weekend, this is it.

Opening Day: An Honest Answer

Most lodging sites will tell you Park City opens in late November. The truthful version is more useful.

Park City Mountain has historically targeted a mid to late November opening, and Deer Valley the first days of December. Neither has announced 2026-27 dates as of this writing. And both dates are aspirations, not commitments: in the 2025-26 season, Park City Mountain moved its November 21 target to December 5, and Deer Valley opened December 6, following what Deer Valley’s own leadership described as the lowest snowfall in Utah history.

The practical advice: do not build a November trip around guaranteed skiing. Build it around Main Street, Thanksgiving, and the holiday weekend, and treat early-season turns as upside if the snow arrives. If turns are the entire point of the trip, December and January are the honest months to aim at.

What is worth knowing for whenever the lifts do spin: Deer Valley has come through the largest expansion in its history, now running 31 chairlifts across roughly 4,300 skiable acres and seven bowls, with a new East Village portal and gondola. Park City Mountain remains the largest single ski resort in the United States, and Town Lift — a five-minute walk from the door — puts you on it without a shuttle or a parking reservation.

The First Three Weeks: The Calm Before Everything

November 1 through roughly the 20th is the deepest off-season Park City has. No lifts, no crowds, no events beyond Fashion’s First Friday. Restaurants take same-day reservations. The trails are a coin flip between dry and snow-covered, and the light at 4 p.m. is extraordinary.

This is not the window for a first visit. It is the window for a family gathering that wants space and quiet, a working retreat, or a couple who has been to Park City in February and wants to see what it looks like when nobody is here. The rooftop hot tub under a cold, clear November sky with the Wasatch dark behind the building is the argument in one image.

November Weather in Park City

November AveragesPark City
Daytime high44–48°F early month, mid 30s°F by the 30th
Overnight lowMid 20s°F early, high teens°F late
SnowMeasurable snow in town is normal by mid-month
DaylightSunset ~5:15 p.m. Nov 1, ~5:00 p.m. Nov 30
RoadsWinter tires or all-wheel drive advisable after mid-month

The short days are the thing to plan around. Sunset before 5:15 p.m. means afternoons end early and evenings are long, which suits a month built around dinners, lit streets, and a fire pit rather than daylight activity.

Where to Stay in Park City in November

For November, and for Thanksgiving in particular, being on Historic Main Street is the entire proposition. Summit on Main is a luxury five-bedroom penthouse with a full Wolf kitchen, a private rooftop hot tub and fire pit, and panoramic mountain views — sleeping up to 10 across five en-suite bedrooms.

The holiday lighting happens a short walk away at Miner’s Park. The snow globes are installed along the block. The gallery stroll passes the door. Thanksgiving dinner can be cooked for ten in the kitchen or reserved at a restaurant three minutes on foot. Town Lift is five minutes away for whenever the mountain opens. In a month with early darkness and real snow, a walkable address stops being a nice feature and starts being the difference between going out and staying in. More on the block itself is on our location page, and our where to stay guide compares the neighborhoods.

Planning a November Trip: What to Know

Thanksgiving week reserves earliest. It is the highest-demand week of the month by a wide margin and the one that fills first for both lodging and restaurant tables.

Aim at November 26–29 for the full holiday weekend. Thanksgiving, the gallery stroll, Small Business Saturday, and the lighting all fall inside four days.

Check the resorts before you commit to dates. Opening days are announced in the autumn and revised as conditions dictate. Both Park City Mountain and Deer Valley publish theirs directly.

Pack for real winter and early dark. Mid-30s afternoons, high-teens nights, and sunset before 5:15 p.m. from the start of the month.

Plan for winter driving. Utah’s canyon roads and the drive from Salt Lake City International can require traction after mid-November. A Main Street address means the car stays parked once you arrive.

Consider the first three weeks if quiet is the goal. Availability is at its widest and the town is at its most local. See our September guide for more on the fall shoulder season.

When does ski season start in Park City?

The town changes over Thanksgiving week: the Snow Globe Art Stroll installs seven life-sized snow globes along Main Street from Top of Main down to Town Lift, the Park City Art and Music Gallery Stroll runs the last Friday of the month, and Small Business Saturday on November 28 includes the official lighting of the Miner’s Park tree and Main Street holiday lights, plus the start of the Silver and Snow window display contest.

Thanksgiving week onward is one of the most atmospheric stretches on the calendar, with the holiday lights, snow globes, and Main Street at its most festive. Choose the first half for solitude and the last week for the holiday experience.
